Secondary Theatre
Drama is a vibrant extra curricular activity in Secondary and is available at all levels.
A major play is performed by Lycée pupils each year. These are always of excellent quality and are much anticipated amongst the British Section community. Plays chosen are often those being studied at OIB – so recent productions include The Norman Conquests by Alan Ayckbourn, Richard III by William Shakespeare and The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter. Last year’s play was Sophocles’ Antigone and this year’sis Terence Rattigan’s Separate Tables (to be performed in February 2009).
Drama evenings of short plays or extracts are also organised at college level, with end of year shows as regular features at Hauts Grillets and Pierre et Marie Curie.
For the dramatically gifted, Lycée pupils are given the opportunity to write or direct their own shows. Recent student run productions have been Strindberg’s Miss Julie Lewis and School Life, a musical written and directed by a senior student; and, last year, an abridged version of The Sound of Music.. This year, the British Section students are staging Twelve Angry Men in December.
