Introduction by the Headmaster, Philip Shaw-Latimer
As part of its continuing desire to follow good UK practice, the British Section organised a full inspection of its teaching, management and governance in the week beginning 19th January, 2003. The three specialists who spent that week with us all had substantial experience in visiting schools in Britain and abroad. The inspection was carried out entirely at the Section’s expense, for OFSTED (the UK schools’ inspectorate) cannot extend its services to schools abroad.
The inspectors were asked to pay particular attention to teaching, learning, children’s progress and the comparability of Section practice and standards those of good British schools. You will therefore find a great deal of detailed comment on these matters in the full report now published on this website. They also, as requested, offered us thoughts and proposals on divisions of responsibility amongst the teaching staff and the rôle of the Committee acting as our governing body.
The staff and I find many causes for satisfaction and encouragement in the inspectors’ report – and this in itself is an important outcome. We hope that parents, too, will take pride in the compliments paid to the teachers. The inspectors also made a number of recommendations for future development and improvement. Their suggestions provided an agenda for action which we have been following since the inspection took place..
